Abbey Gardner is a 19 year old singer songwriter from Sydney. Her indie-pop-electronic sounds have been developed over 10 years of musicianship, influenced by artists such as Vera Blue and Glass Animals. Her songwriting skills have showed its worth through the winnings of Songs Alive Australia’s National Song Comp’s ‘Songwriter of the Year’, as well as the Australian Independent Music Award’s Youth Artist of the year.
Abbey has also been showcasing her original music in various acclaimed venues around Sydney since 2014, such as The Sydney Opera House, Leadbelly, Newtown Social Club and the Red Rattler Theatre to name a few. She has also been featured on line ups for festivals and events such as the Long Jetty Street Festival, NYE: Light Up The Lake and Genext (Museum of Contemporary Art).
Her 2016 debut EP, ‘Shadows After 3’, found success through national and international radio play. Her EP featured 5 tracks highlighting the issues facing adolescents, stating multiple political and social ideas. Her latest single released in May 2018, ‘Weight of Feeling’, has reached great success through reaching the shortlist top 40 for Vanda & Young’s national songwriting competition, ran through APRA AMCOS. Abbey’s track was highlighted on playlists alongside the other shortlisted artists such as Amy Shark, Gang of Youths, Mallrat and many more.
Abbey is also the youth ambassador for Jam 4 Awareness – a project aimed at raising awareness of social issues to young people, using music as a medium to communicate a variety of messages such as bullying, cyber-bullying and mental health. This project is supported by some of Australia’s high profile artists such as Delta Goodrem, Missy Higgins, Ian Moss, Guy Sebastian, Diesel, Vanessa Amorosi, Grinspoon and many more.
